Life's a Beach for Young Marine Wardens
Dorset Wildlife Trust's first ever group of Young Marine Wardens has begun conservation work at the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve at Kimmeridge.
- Training includes tides, marine biology, ecology and identification, wardening and conservation.
- Trips to other sites
- Monthly sessions throughout the academic year
- Work alongside the Marine Conservation Officers
- Gain a PADI skorkelling qualification
- Working towards Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Projects include:
- setting up trails in the reserve
- designing new activities
- maintaining aquaria
- producing artistic murals
- patrolling the reserve during the summer.
DWT is now inviting applications for 15 places on the next course, which will start in September 2008. Young people, from the age of 13, interested in the marine environment, and possibly considering it as a career.
