Walk for Wildlife 2008 - 3 new routes!
Clear your diary for Sunday 21st September
>Registration form This year there are 3 exclusive new routes for the Walk for Wildlife at a breathtaking new location in Purbeck on Sunday 21st September. There's something for everyone:
- share a leisurely stroll with your family
- challenge yourself to a major walk
- test yourself running across Dorset's hills
Starts & finishes in Church Knowle
The MGFT Animal Sanctuary at Church Knowle has come to the rescue of the 2008 Walk for Wildlife. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to change the start and finish point for the sponsored event. The new venue at Church Knowle replaces Tyneham, although some routes will still be passing through the military ranges which are usually off-limits to the general public. There's a choice of:
- a 4-mile family-friendly route
- a 13-mile Dorset Demon (runners welcome!)
- or a 24-mile route for experienced walkers.
Help Marine Conservation
All proceeds from the day will contribute directly to supporting DWT's conservation and education work at the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve. The reserve is the longest established Voluntary Marine Reserve (VMNR) in the UK. VMNR status does not offer any extra legal protection to the wildlife of the area so DWT relies on supporters, visitors, partners, wise users and events like the Walk for Wildlife to help safeguard the site's wildlife and habitats for future generations.
Special registration offer for schools
Schools can register a team of up to 10 pupils for just £25 with one teacher getting free entry. > Schools registration form
Please seek sponsorship
We are encouraging participants to seek sponsorship for their efforts in this year's walk. We will provide you with a sponsorship pack - just tick the relevant box when returning the registration form. We will return the registration fee to all individuals that raise £50 or more!
There are a number of prizes on offer to our top fundraisers including a weekend break at the Aramay boutique B&B in the picturesque village of St Agnes in Cornwall.
To receive a registration form please contact DWT on 01305 264 620 or download a copy. Please note that the routes have changed from those on the form. All now start and finish at the MGFT Animal Sanctuary in Church Knowle
Why get sponsorship?
You will notice that there is no increase in the charge to enter this event this year but the registration fee barely covers the costs such as printing, hire of premises for check-points, provision of first-aid cover, postage and refreshments.
The benefit to the Trust arises from the money raised by walkers above and beyond the registration fee, principally by sponsorship or, in some cases, by donations in lieu.
We have been delighted by the energy and enthusiasm with which many have pursued this challenge in the past and impressed by the generosity of the support we have received. For the sake of the future of marine wildlife in Purbeck, we invite you to do so again. |
