Upton Heath Reserve

Size: 205ha.

A surviving area of Dorset heathland with views across Poole Harbour, Corfe Castle & the Isle of Purbeck. The nature of the terrain reflects its historic use for pottery & brick making. 

Wildlife interest:

  • All 6 British reptile species are found on the dry heath.
  • Stonechats and Dartford warblers.
  • The boggy areas support many dragonfly species as well as carnivorous round-leaved sundew & raft spiders.

Best time to visit:

Late summer & autumn.

Access:

Limited due to difficult ground conditions.

Location:

Map ref. SY 989951.  Leave the A35, turn down Longmeadow Lane, Creekmoor, until the junction with Beech Bank Avenue.  Park at the end of Longmeadow Lane.
