Sits high with superb views of S. Somerset. Mixture of mature woodland with a good variety of birds, plants, butterflies and mammals.
Wildlife interest:
- Tawny owls, song thrushes & other woodland bird species, with spotted flycatchers & willow warblers in summer.
- Large mammals include roe deer & badgers.
- Springtime show of bluebells, primroses & pink purslane.

Late spring & early summer.
Access:
Limited due to the steep terrain.
Location:
Map ref. ST 633204. Take the B3145 Charlton Horethorne/Wincanton road N. of Sherborne. After 2 miles fork left at a red finger post, then turn left soon afterwards down a narrow lane. The reserve is 1/2 mile down on both sides of the road. Parking is in a small old quarry on the right at the top of the hill or a lay-by on the left at the bottom of the hill. |
