David Ballam Education Room and Activities

With a grant from the Aggregate Levy Sustainable Fund we have been able to design and install a purpose built education room at the Urban Wildlife Centre to re-inforce the importance of urban heathlands in Dorset

The Urban Wildlife Centre also boasts bat roost and bird nest cameras linked to televisions and a bird watching hide in the education room.  Available for use by school and community groups there are also interpretation panels and interactive activities designed to promote the importance of Dorset's urban heathland.

Based on the edge of Upton Heath, the UWC organises a range of educational activities:

  • Mini beast hunts
  • Pond dipping
  • Discovery walks
  • Landfill site and mineral extraction - how they impact on the natural environment

If you are interested in a group visiting the education room and carrying our environmental activities on Upton Heath please contact us
