Free wildflower seeds from Dorset nature reserve

betony small DWTDorset Wildlife Trust is calling for volunteers to help restore wildlife-rich grasslands in West Dorset.  Anybody signing up at DWT's stand at this week's Melplash Show will receive a free pack of wild meadow seed from their beautiful Kingcombe Meadows nature reserve. The volunteer day will be on Thursday 30th October and involves conservation work on farms in West Dorset.

The day is part of the Pastures New project, which has been set up to conserve and restore wildlife-rich grasslands in the county. Grasslands are an incredibly important habitat for a range of butterflies, wildflowers, birds and mammals. Sadly, the last fifty years have seen the disappearance of over 95% of wildlife-rich grasslands, such as hay meadows and old pastures. Volunteers can help to reverse this decline.

Project Manager Andrew Pollard says: "This is a great way to get out into the countryside, get fit and help Dorset's wildlife at the same time."

DWT will be giving away wildflower seeds all day at the Melplash Agricultural Show, at the West Bay Show Ground, Bridport on Thursday 21st August. If you can't make the show but would like to volunteer on 30th October, or are available to help at any other time, please contact the Pastures New project on 01300 321329 or email .
