 "Get your boots on!" That's the message from TV's Chris Packham, who wants as many people as possible to join the 2008 Walk for Wildlife. This year sees the 30th anniversary of the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve at Kimmeridge Bay, so all proceeds from the sponsored walks and run will go towards supporting Dorset Wildlife Trust's marine education and conservation projects. The reserve is the longest established mainland Voluntary Marine Reserve (VMNR) in the UK, putting Dorset on the map as a beacon of marine conservation.
To celebrate three decades of the marine reserve, there are three brand new routes to choose from, all starting and finishing at Church Knowle and taking in spectacular countryside and coastal paths. On the longer routes, there are even sections through the military ranges, which are usually off-limits to the general public. There are 4, 13 and 24 mile routes to cater for all ages and abilities. Runners are welcome for the 13-mile Dorset Demon, with their own special start time at 9.30 am.
Chris Packham said: "What could be better than spending a day in the fantastic Dorset countryside and helping to protect our amazing marine life at the same time? Get your boots on!"
