Thirty wardens from the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve were given a brilliant day out on the Callista; a research vessel belonging to the National Oceanographic Centre at Southampton. Out in the Solent, the group looked at light penetration through the water, took temperature and salinity recordings and identified marine life samples from the seabed.
Wardens were face to face with the likes of various spider crabs species, cockles, whelks, and pipefish. Plankton trawls revealed many species under the microscope to show early stages of algae, crab and barnacle larvae.
